The Hygienist and Dentist both took time to know about me as a new patient and my expectations for my dental care. Good job on the cleaning and Dentist did a thorough job of checking my jaw movements for all directions and discomfort and strength and naturally my teeth. Found a small cavity and scheduled me for the following Tuesday. Everyone very friendly and a relaxing atmosphere.
Last year, I was going through major struggles with one of my molars – I had seen two dentists prior, with no resolution in my oral pain. A friend recommended North Star Dentistry to me and it was such a blessing. I am finally pain free. From the moment you walk into their office, the environment is relaxing and you are greeted by their kind receptionists. The dental hygienists are patient and thorough. Dr. Merrill is truly skilled in his profession – his bedside manner is excellent. Any problem I want addressed gets taken seriously and a solution developed. He explains procedures in detail to make sure I am comfortable with the care I will receive – this has helped tremendously to reduce my dental office anxiety. After moving to another state, I continue to see Dr. Merrill for my dental work – the care he provides is unmatched.
The absolute best dental care I’ve ever received!l No joke. Next level. I was traveling through and in tremendous pain, and they literally saved me. Though I live in Kansas City, I’m seriously considering flying back for all my future dental needs because I never want to sit in anyone else’s dental chair ever again!
My husband and I joined the Northstar Dentistry Family a few years ago. We are so grateful for an entire team of wonderful dental professionals to not only care for our teeth, but make each experience comfortable and enjoyable. On one visit during a very cold winter morning, I was offered a warm fuzzy blanket to use during my visit.
Dr. Merrill brings an authentic, personable, and highly experienced presence to each visit. We have loved each and every hygienist who has cared for us. Scheduling and / or rescheduling appts has always been seamless as well.
Although Dr. Merrill brings so much joy to dentistry, Steve, often has the power to steal the show! Steve is the office therapy dog who brings smiles and peaceful moments to patients and staff. You may find this tiny pup in his “Security” shirt filling the hallways with laughter or he may be snuggled up on a patient’s lap who requested his presence. It’s safe to say that Steve is a spoiled dog, but his goodness overflows into spoiling the patients too!
We are so thankful to have Northstar in our neighborhood!
I had a most wonderful experience at NorthStar Dentistry for Adults, from the first phone contact, to the friendly office staff, to meeting with the patient advocate, to working with the dental assistant to get tricky X-rays, to my meeting with Dr. Merrill. 10/10 Highly recommend
Excellent dental care with the latest state of the art technology. Customer service is excellent. They truly care about their patients. They serve coffee, water, and at times you can leave with freshly made bread!!!
I’ve bounced around from dentist to dentist since living in Charlotte over the last 18 years. I’m not sure I’ve ever really been thrilled with my experience, but I have had several horrible experiences. Horrible, painful, time consuming, frustrating, and costly experiences. It’s no wonder people have generalized anxiety about going to the dentist. Gosh, what an absolute breath of fresh air NorthStar Dentistry has with their entire operation.

Comfortable surroundings? Check.
Friendly and knowledge staff? Check and check.
But wait, there’s more. There’s so much more. Enter stage left – Dr. Shelli Boucher (pronounced “BOO-shay”). She is absolutely, without question, the best dentist I’ve ever had. I’m 40 years old (shhh, you tell NO ONE I said that). My teeth have seen some things. Other than during the pandemic, I’ve had a cleaning every 6 months since I was a kid. I’ve had braces, fillings, crowns, implants, root canals, chipped teeth, whitening, bite guards… the works. I’m telling you, Dr. Boucher could teach all my previous dentists a thing or two. SHE will be the reason I come back and is the reason I’m writing this review. The admin staff and my hygienist were also excellent. Upon walking into the office, I was immediately greeted with a smile and a quip that made ME smile. I quickly recognized this was going to be a different experience than all the rest. For the first time, I think I’ve finally found a dentist that cares more about my wants and needs than selling me something I don’t need.
NorthStar Dentistry is some distant from my home (about 45 minutes up I-77), but it is the office I stick with. I tried dentists near me after Dr. Merrill moved from Charlotte, but the service and the expertise was not at all the same. I plan to stick with Dr. Merrill. He and his staff are the best.
My favorite dentist so far, and I’ve been to many. Not only are they friendly, but the Dentist are very knowledgeable and experts at their craft. Highly recommended.
my experience at this office has never been anything short of comforting, kind, pleasant, and consistent! I’ve never had to wait for lengthy periods in the lobby, they have always greeted me with a smile and listened to any concerns I’ve had and gone above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable during appointments. I am someone who gets anxiety when I go to the dentist, but here? there’s nothing to worry about! all of the staff including Dr. Merrill & his wife are so warm and kind, and the best thing is, they have a family dog, whose name is Steve & he’s also registered as a therapy pet, & yesterday he laid on me for my entire session and kept me so calm. it was the sweetest experience I’ve ever had in any office. I can’t stress enough how lucky I feel to be a patient here! if you’re thinking about going to this office, run, don’t walk! they’re incredible!
Common Questions About General Dentistry
What is general dentistry? +–
Daily oral hygiene is essential to keeping your mouth clean and healthy. But as important as brushing and flossing are, they aren’t enough on their own to protect your teeth and gums. General dentistry covers a wide range of treatments designed to help you prevent and detect dental problems, so you can keep your oral health on track.
What foods are healthy for my teeth? +–
Foods that are good for your body also tend to be good for your teeth. This includes fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and calcium-rich foods like cheese. With their high water and fiber content, some fruits and veggies work almost like a toothbrush to clean plaque from teeth. Nuts are a great snack, as they contain minerals that help strengthen tooth enamel and make it more resistant to cavities.
Can I prevent cavities? +–
Brushing with a toothpaste that contains fluoride at least two times a day is essential in preventing cavities, as is daily flossing. Limiting the amount of sugary or highly acidic foods in your diet is also helpful. If you’re unable to brush after meals, rinsing out your mouth with water is a good way to help wash away the food debris and bacteria that cause cavities. Ask your dental team about fluoride and sealants, two treatments that can make your teeth less cavity-prone.
