Dental Bonding Before and After (Real Patient’s Story!)

If you’re not happy with your smile, you may find yourself hiding your mouth when you talk, laugh, or eat.

While that’s no way to live, you’re not alone.

Let us introduce you to our patient Heather from Huntersville, NC.

For years, she was unhappy with how her teeth looked to the point where she only smiled with her lips.

But all of that changed with dental bonding!

In the story below, we cover:

  • Why Heather wasn’t confident with her smile
  • Her before-and-after photo with dental bonding
  • What dental bonding is
  • And more!

Let’s get started.

Heather’s smile makeover story

It all started in the fourth grade.

Heather’s dentist realized she had an extra adult front tooth that needed to be surgically extracted. After her dentist removed it, a flat and underdeveloped front tooth took its place.

Her journey continues with three other surgeries on a damaged canine tooth, removing wisdom teeth, and having braces for more than six years.

Even after all that, she still didn’t like her smile. She had a dark shadow on her front tooth and would always smile with her lips closed.

She was ready to give up on trying to fix her teeth and settle.

Fast forward to adulthood:

Heather pursued a career in dentistry as a dental assistant. She’s seen her fair share of dental work in the past 13+ years ranging from good to bad.

Then she was hired to work at NorthStar Dentistry for Adults in March 2020.

Truly impressed by the talent and skill at our office, Heather decided to schedule her own consultation with Dr. John Merrill.

Dental bonding before and after

During Heather’s initial consultation, she discussed things that bothered her about her smile with Natalie, Dr. Merrill’s wife.

“She made some recommendations that I had thought about in my head, but never knew how to describe to dentists. It was like she read my mind.”

Then our Huntersville dentist created a personalized treatment plan that included chairside veneers and cosmetic bonding.

Before we began treatment, we did an intra-oral preview for Heather. This is a temporary mockup placed over your teeth to show what your teeth could look like.

As Dr. Merill’s assistant, Heather knew his schedule would be booked and busy, but after seeing a preview of her smile, she knew she had to get it done ASAP.

Dr. Merill and Natalie were able to complete her treatment in one afternoon!

Ever since, Heather hasn’t stopped beaming with confidence!

From Heather herself,

“Dr. Merrill and his wonderful wife have given me the beautiful smile I have always dreamed of having. I smile bigger in photos and life. I no longer have a “guarded” smile. They have truly changed my life.”

You deserve the same confidence and happiness in your smile too.

As Heather says,

“I have the prettiest smile I have ever had in my entire life, and Dr. Merill and Natalie are to thank for that. I’m so lucky to be part of their team and help others be as happy as I am with my smile. Everyone deserves to smile – and smile big!”

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding, also known as cosmetic or tooth bonding, restores the appearance of your teeth using a resin material.

It quickly fixes:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Discoloration
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Other minor flaws

Dental bonding is minimally invasive and doesn’t require removing any tooth surface.

It’s also typically done in one visit so that you can enjoy your new smile the same day.

Cosmetic bonding also looks exceptionally natural and is made to blend in with your surrounding teeth.

How long does dental bonding last?

Dental bonding may last up to 10 years with proper oral care.

Your eating habits also determine how long bonding lasts, so it’s best to avoid:

  • Biting your nails
  • Chewing ice
  • Biting directly into hard or sticky foods

To maintain proper oral care, you should:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time
  • Floss at least once per day
  • Visit your dentist for regularly scheduled cleanings.

This routine will keep your bonding in tip-top shape, giving you a smile you’ll love for years to come.

Text: Take care of your dental bonding treatment. Avoid biting your nails, chewing ice, and biting directly into hard or sticky foods.

How does dental bonding work?

A tooth-colored material is applied to your teeth, shaped to look natural, and hardened with a special light.

This ultimately bonds the durable plastic material to your tooth and improves your smile instantly.

It’s also completely pain-free and doesn’t require getting numb with a local anesthetic.

How much does dental bonding cost?

Tooth bonding costs vary from patient to patient.

This depends on a couple of factors, including:

  • How many teeth need to be fixed
  • Location and size of the area that needs bonding
  • The geographic location and skill of your dentist

Good news:

Bonding is significantly lower in cost compared to other cosmetic treatments like veneers. To get a quote, schedule a consultation with a cosmetic dentist near you.
